Roles we hire for#

Telelink Business Services hires for four kinds of roles as projects require. Low voltage technicians install, terminate, test and troubleshoot structured cabling, cameras, access control, wireless and the other systems on the services page. Cabling installers pull, dress and terminate copper and fiber under a technician’s direction and build toward the technician role. Lead technicians run the field on a project: they read the drawings and submittals, lay out the work, direct the crew, coordinate with the GC’s superintendent and the electrician, and own the daily log. Project coordinators support the project manager from the office: submittal logs, RFIs, material tracking, certified payroll on public work, closeout binders and scheduling.

We list roles as they open. If there is no posting, send a resume anyway. Hiring follows the project schedule, and we go back to the resumes on file when a project starts.

What the work is like#

The work is commercial and institutional. The projects range from a state agency floor in downtown Sacramento to a campus building in the Bay Area to an occupied senior housing building in San Diego. Sacramento is home, and most days start there. Projects outside the region are run as planned work blocks, which means travel for a defined stretch of days with a dedicated project manager. Travel dates are set in advance, not assigned the day before.

Much of the work is in occupied buildings. That means resident notices, working in a posted window, closing ceilings at the end of every shift, keeping corridors clear, and being courteous to the people whose office or apartment you are standing in. On state, school and healthcare projects it means badging, background checks and following the building’s rules for escorts and after-hours access. The safety and compliance page describes the safety program you would be working under.

The same technical standard applies on every project. Every copper drop is certified to ANSI/TIA-568 with a calibrated tester rated for the category, Level III for Cat6 and Level IIIe for Cat6A, every fiber strand is tested, every cable is labeled to a scheme, and every camera and access point is documented by manufacturer for NDAA review. The role includes documenting the work, not only installing it.

What a strong candidate brings#

For technician and lead technician roles:

  • Hands-on experience with Cat6 and Cat6A termination and testing, fiber termination and OTDR testing, IP camera and access control installation, and reading construction drawings.
  • BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2 credentials, or manufacturer training on platforms such as Cisco Meraki, ButterflyMX or DoorKing. Either is a plus and is documented in your file.
  • A clean driving record, because the work involves driving company vehicles between sites.
  • The ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting, because state agency, school district and some housing projects require it before you can enter the building.
  • Comfort on ladders and lifts, and aerial lift certification if you have it.
  • Reliability, because a crew on a work block depends on everyone showing up.

For project coordinator roles:

  • Familiarity with construction document flow, submittals, RFIs and closeout.
  • Experience with certified payroll on public works.
  • Accuracy on submittal and payroll logs, which matters more in this role than length of experience.

For cabling installer roles:

  • A willingness to learn.
  • A clean driving record.
  • The ability to pass a background check.
  • The ability to do physical work above the ceiling all day.

How to apply#

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Do I need a BICSI certification to apply?

No. BICSI Installer credentials and manufacturer training are a plus and are documented in your file, but hands-on experience with termination, testing and reading drawings matters more for technician roles.

How much travel is involved?

Sacramento is home and most work starts there. Projects elsewhere in California are run as planned work blocks, a defined stretch of days scheduled in advance with a project manager, not open-ended travel.

Is a background check required?

For many projects, yes. State agencies, school districts and some housing owners require background checks or fingerprinting before a technician can enter the building, so the ability to pass one is a hiring requirement.

Do you hire installers without experience?

Yes, for cabling installer roles. A clean driving record, the ability to pass a background check, and the willingness to do physical work above the ceiling all day are the starting requirements. Installers build toward the technician role.
