How this site is built for assistive technology#

This site is built to be usable with screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, voice control and other assistive technology.

The standard we work to#

We design, build and test this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Accessibility is checked when pages are built and again when content changes. Testing is ongoing, and we correct issues as we find them or as visitors report them. If something on this site does not meet that standard for you, tell us. We will review what you report and tell you what we can do about it.

What is built into the site#

• The site is built and tested so that pages and controls can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator on the active element. Where we find one that cannot, we correct it.
• Images carry text alternatives, and decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
• Text and interface colors are chosen and checked against the WCAG Level AA contrast minimum in both the light and the dark theme, and the high contrast setting targets the stricter Level AAA ratio for body text, captions and links.
• The site reads your device settings for color scheme, contrast and reduced motion and follows them before you change anything, and the preferences panel says on the control when a setting is coming from your device rather than from you.
• Text can be resized to at least 200 percent with your browser zoom, or up to 132 percent from the preferences panel, without losing content or function. The panel scales the whole page, not only the body copy.
• Pages use consistent headings, landmarks, and a skip link so you can move directly to the main content.
• Every section heading has its own link, so you can jump to a section or send someone a link that opens on it.
• Forms have visible labels, clear error messages, and instructions that do not rely on color alone.
• A display preferences panel, opened from the button at the lower right of every page, lets you switch to a dark theme, change the text size, turn on high contrast, switch to a highly legible font, highlight every link in the text, widen the line, letter and word spacing, make menus and overlays solid instead of translucent, and stop all animation and background video. Your choices are stored only on your device, contain no personal information, are never sent anywhere, and are applied before the page draws so nothing flashes. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Alternate formats on request#

If any page, guide, form or document on this site does not work for you, we will provide the same information another way at no cost to you. That includes:

• Large print, or a plain text version of any page, guide or calculator on this site
• An accessible electronic document, or a printed copy if that is easier for you
• A proposal, bid, submittal or closeout document in a format your assistive technology can read
• Information read to you over the phone, and form answers taken down over the phone instead of typed into a form
• A different arrangement that works better for you, if none of the above fits

Content we do not fully control#

Some content linked from this site, such as manufacturer specification sheets and standards documents, is hosted by third parties and built to their standards rather than ours. If a linked document is not accessible to you, tell us. We will get you the information another way, in the format described above.
